The degradation of plastic bags, most of which are disposable plastic packaging and daily necessities wastes, has aroused great concern of the society due to their environmental pollution and damage to the ecological balance. Therefore, the disposal of this problem has become an urgent issue in environmental maintenance. Generally speaking, in addition to thermal degradation, plastic photodegradation and biodegradation in the natural environment are relatively slow.
Using C14 isotopes to track the degradation of plastics in soil, the results showed that the degradation rate of plastics varies with environmental conditions (rainfall, permeability, temperature, etc.), but overall, the degradation rate is very slow, usually taking 200 to 400 years. To solve this problem, industrialized countries have adopted methods such as burial, extinguishing, and recycling to dispose of waste plastics.
However, these methods all have uncontrollable defects, such as occupying too much land when suspending landfill disposal and making the landfill unstable; Due to its high heat output, when the extinguishing process is stopped, it is easy to damage the extinguishing furnace and discharge dioxins. Sometimes, harmful gases may also be emitted. For recycling applications, it is often difficult to collect or even if forced to collect and stop recycling applications, resulting in poor economic benefits and no economic benefits.
